Artist-run Mischief Night
The Windy City supplies a cornucopia of Halloween events, from Halloween party pub crawls to extravagant costume soirees. But for something a little different and outside of the usual scary stunts, try these top three events for a night of frightful fun:
1.Mischief Night (Hyde Park Art Center, 5020 S. Cornell, 1PM-10 PAM 10/29) : Nobody conjures up disturbing and dark elements quite like an artist so this all day event where artists take over the Hyde Park Arts Center and transform it into their vision of scary will definitely be memorable. This free event includes gruesome artwork, videos inspired by Egar Allen Poe and a zombification station.
2. The Monkey’s Paw Massacre ( Metro, 3730 N.Clark, 8PM, 10/29) : The Freakeasy crew take over the Metro nightclub for a night of throbbing house and techno, accompanied by acrobats, fire jugglers, body painting and of course, a steampunk circus band. Cover is $30.
3. Pumpkin Party (Smallbar, 2049 W. Division, 7PM, 10/29) : Who needs pumpkin candies and cookies when you can have pumpkin beer? This free party features four of the best pumpkin beers available and if that’s not enough, there’s also housemade candy and cupcakes baked with the beer and topped with bourbon icing.
