Halloween
Of all the holidays, Halloween has always been my favorite. Keep your Easter bunnies, leprechauns and Santas, give me zombies, witches and vampires! Sadly, Halloween is not celebrated in Spain. The 31st is not a day to dress up, although some schools do celebrate the holiday because it’s fun for the kiddies. Still, it’s not a typical Spanish tradition. Sigh. The Spanish do celebrate The Day of the Dead, which is a national holiday (no work) on the 1st of November. This is the day to go to the cemetery and clean off your deceased loved ones’ graves, which is nice but not even close to as much fun as dressing up as a zombie cheerleader covered in fake blood. Am I right?
If you adore Halloween as much as I, then make sure to be at the SALA MONASTERIO HALLOWEEN 2011 party, which will be held this year on Saturday October 29th. I’m not sure why they don’t do it on the 31st, except that the 31st is a Monday. I went to this party a couple years ago and had a blast. People who turn out for Halloween parties in Barcelona go all out, most of them expats desperate to express their Halloween spirit. There was a costume contest, live bands and chaos when I went, and I expect this year will be swell as well.
